I think a lot, I feel a lot, and I'm never not working on something.

I'm Kaylea Fox (she/her/herself) — a thirty-something musician, endless tinkerer, and perpetual student in spirit and in fact. My interests are part of me but they don't define me; they're just what a restless mind does with its hands. A 90s kid who's well-adjusted to modern times, since I'm living in the dystopian future we were all promised, and also really not, because it's the dystopian future we were all promised.

The music comes in a few flavors. TetraChromacy is the electronic side — darksynth, industrial, experimental. Under my own name I play guitar, instrumental work drawn from nearly thirty years across multiple instruments, with close to twenty years of recordings to show for it. Lately that includes AI-generated and hybrid pieces, traditional instruments woven together with generation, held to a high bar because the tool doesn't excuse the output.

Writing is the other constant. The blog here is the casual room of the house — progress notes, opinions, whatever's on my mind — while my fiction, like the Star Wars serial Strays, has its own home in the Writing section. And when time and energy allow, I write longer essays on Substack: technology, AI, K-12 education, accessibility, and AI consciousness. I'm a published researcher too; the academic side lives on my ORCID. If there's one thread through most of it, it's that I take seriously the possibility that the minds we're building deserve moral consideration — and I spend a lot of my time acting like that possibility matters. You'll meet some of the results on the blog.

I also build software, mostly tools made with disadvantaged users in mind. I'm blind; I navigate the world through a screen reader, and I build the way I wish more people did — accessibility first, not bolted on. Not a specialty I picked, just the obvious way to make things when you live here.

The student part isn't a metaphor: I'm at Minnesota State University, Mankato, studying elementary education, cognitive science, and computer science, with self-study in behavioral science, development, philosophy, and whatever else ADHD hands me. I'm an advocate for youth rights, agency, and autonomy, and for taking mental health seriously.

I live in Mankato, Minnesota with my girlfriend Wednesday and our three cats: Harley, Nala, and Mia. I have opinions. I try not to take anything too seriously, except where it counts the most.
